BackgroundThe antibody, which is specific for human Calcitonin, may be used for the detection of C-cells in the thyroid glands. It is also suitable for the investigation of C-cell hyperplasia and for the detection of medullary thyroid carcinoma in which calcitonin is over-expressed.Calcitonin is a peptide hormone of 32 aa length, which is produced by C-cells of the thyroid gland. The hormone is responsible for the homeostasis of Calcium in blood and for Calcium uptake into bone cells. Human Calcitonin.
